Bragg-Mitchell Mansion - Engagement Session - Chase and Cayla

Chase and Cayla just celebrated their engagement with a Bragg-Mitchell Mansion engagement session! I am so excited to be a part of their wedding day.

Though Chase is quiet at first, you can tell he loves Cayla so fiercely. And Cayla is the perfect match, full of laughter and a big personality. You can tell they bring out the best in one another!

The Interview

I need to know, how did you meet?
Chase and I both attended USM at the same time. I was in Kappa Delta and he was a Sigma Chi. So we often attended the other’s events and social functions, but never with each other. We were never introduced in college, but we both knew who each other were with us being in similar crowds. Also, he had a girlfriend all throughout college, so the cards didn’t fall into place for us until later.
Fast forward to June 2018, I had moved to Mobile a little over a year prior for my big girl job as a nurse. Chase and I met on Tinder. When we matched, it shocked me. I assumed he was still dating the same girl he was with in college. Low and behold, they broke up the year before, and he had moved back to his hometown Mobile after school. We started texting back and forth and discovered that we only lived less than a mile from each other. We hung out for the first time at his house a couple days after we matched. Here we are 2.5 years later in love and engaged to be married!

What were the first things you remember noticing about each other?
I thought Chase was quiet and a little shy, but I loved his sense of humor and sarcasm. He made me feel like I was the most beautiful girl in the world. So sweet! He’s a big dude and tries to put on a facade that he’s hardcore and acts all tough, but he loves with his whole heart and truly cares for me. He’s always been my protector.
I asked Chase this question. He said, “I thought you were loud.” He’s not wrong!

What did you do on your first date? For our first date, Chase took me to Briquettes Steakhouse for dinner. He laughed at me when I asked for ranch with my steak! Afterwards, we went to Winn-Dixie and I got 2 bottles of my favorite wine and some ice cream. Then we went back to Chase’s house for a movie night. And you best believe I drank all of that wine.

When did you know you wanted to spend forever together?
Months into our relationship, Chase told me that not long after we first started hanging out, he told his roommate that I was the girl he was going to marry!

What’s your favorite thing to do together?
I feel like Chase and I are pretty chill people. We don’t have to do extravagant things to have fun with each other. We love taking our 2 dogs on walks and binge-watching new shows that we find. He’s my personal chef and is always cooking for me, and I just sit back and be his taste-tester.

How did you propose? Proposal stories are my FAVORITE!
We planned a trip to Gatlinburg as a little Christmas trip and for my birthday. The weeks leading up, I got suspicious that he would propose while we were there. But I didn’t want to get my hopes up and then it not happen.
So I tried to not constantly think about whether or not it was about to happen. It didn’t help that all of my friends were like, “Do you think you’re going to get engaged?” or, “I bet Chase will propose to you while y’all are there.”
The day of my birthday we went to downtown Gatlinburg and made plans to get lunch. Then we walked around to all the little shops and breweries and wineries that were there. Chase said he wanted to ride up to the top of Anakeesta that afternoon to walk around and grab dinner. So we rode up the top on the skylift and walked underneath the beautiful hanging Christmas lights displayed. They have a bunch of cable bridges between trees where you can walk. The whole thing is lined with lights.
We walked to the middle of the bridges where there was a big platform. We stopped to take some pictures. I noticed our friends all had their phones up. And after I made Chase snap a selfie with me, I turned back to him, and he got down on one knee. He asked me to spend the rest of my life with him. Best birthday ever!!!!

You’re getting married! Describe your perfect wedding day in a few words.
My perfect wedding day would be a day full of constant joy and love beaming from everyone in attendance. I can’t wait to be surrounded by both of our families and closest friends to celebrate our marriage. I can plan to have the most beautiful wedding with amazing decor and dresses and flowers, but if the people we love most aren’t there, it would all be for nothing!
